This is what we woke up to this morning.....

Ipu at 3 Weeks

Here's the update on our ipu field:We have thinned out the seedlings to between one to three plants per hole. They are really taking off and seem to grow overnight. Looks like the deer came to take a taste as I found some plants at the end with bite marks on the leaves.....yay, looks like they don't like ipu plants (well, when we grew them before, the field was next to our goat pen and even the goats did not like the taste of ipu :)
Hope to have long healthy vines in the next few weeks.

Ipu Seedlings!

Yay! The seeds have sprouted.

Now to watch them grow.....

Almost everyday here is a beautiful day. This was the view from the field this morning:

Kilakila o Haleakala!

And this was the view to the left:
This picture really doesn't do it justice but you can see Molokini and Kaho'olawe.
We feel so lucky and happy to be here!

Ipu Seeds Planted

We spent the past week preparing this field for planting. Here it is just before plowing:

Thanks to my dad for doing the tractor work and for being our farm consultant. A big mahalo goes out to Noel for letting us borrow this huge tractor! And an extra big mahalo to Jr (Junior's Jewels) for providing his advice and expertise on drip irrigation!

After the plowing was done, Kent and I put in the fertilizer and covered it by hand (since we're limited on farm implements)...I have to admit, this was pretty hard work! Then we laid out the irrigation and covered the rows with plastic mulch.

That was enough work for one day!

Yesterday we planted our 4th of July ipu seeds. I'll definitely update in a week or so and hopefully we'll have sprouts.
