Feels Like Summer

One of my favorite things about this time of year is the blossoming pakalana. The vines are growing on the fence outside our home office and sometimes in the morning or early evening, if the wind is just right, the scent will find its way in here. It reminds me to stop and enjoy the moment......

Speaking of flowers and summer, it's also a time for weddings. I have been making these wedding coconut cups for a very long time. Many years ago, a wedding company asked if we could make coconut champagne cups. This is what they got...coconut cups tied with raffia to the stem and tapa bases (look familiar?). I still get requests for them so am adding them to our specials.

"Mom, I need money."

Younger son Bronson is home from UH and the only time he will work for us is when he needs money. Lucky for us he's very poor now and hasn't started his "real" summer job yet!

Sorry about this last picture......I just could not get it STRAIGHT!! So rather than drive myself crazier (ok, enhale, yes, smell that pakalana), I'll leave it. It's a rare moment when we all get to have dinner together and especially sit down at the same table to enjoy each other's company.

Today's 'Olelo No'eau: 'Ukuli'i ka pua, onaona i ka mau'u./Tiny is the flower, yet it scents the grasses around it.

Ipu, Longboard, Leis

Aloha to Grace Hula Dance Company in Texas!

Tonya loves her new ipu. Her friend Janet came all the way from Texas to visit Kent in Paia and ordered her ipu.

Thats what friends are for.......

Changing the subject.....
We want to endorse this awesome surfboard made by our friend Bill Foote

It is a 9.1 high performance epoxy longboard. It's light, fast, paddles great, turns unreal and I love it! If you are interested, send us an email or check out Bill's website...it's a great board at a great price!

With Graduation time upon us, I wanted to remind everyone that we have these fabulous eyelash leis made by our neighborhood post woman, Maryann. We have a nice stock of these leis in a wide range of colors. Check them out in our specials.

Today's 'Oleleo No'eau: Ua ola no i ka pane a ke aloha/There is life in a kindly reply.

Though one may have no gift to offer to a friend, a kind word or a friendly greeeting is just as important.

Happy Mother's Day!

Whew! April sure was a busy month. Besides the Merrie Monarch and the ipu heke workshop, we had been busy moving our retail location. We are still in Paia but now located 2 buildings up (113 Baldwin Ave.) inside the HazBeanz coffee shop. Mahalo to Jen and Jill for having us!

Now you can sip a cup of fresh roasted coffee and enjoy a delicious snack while you browse.
We are hoping to maybe even have some workshops here.

Ahhhh, Now that May has arrived, we have been able to relax a bit and do a little more of what we love to do......

Mom and oldest son Kukilakila.

Hope you all enjoyed your Mother's Day....I did.

Today's 'Olelo No'eau: E kolo ana no ke ewe i ke ewe./The rootlet will creep toward the rootlets.

Of the same origin, kinfolk will seek and love each other.
